The Ups and Downs of Life

You know, one thing that's great about this new way of understanding the world is it accounts for life's ups and downs. Take this morning, for instance. Start the day with:

What I Like About You - The Romantics

A decent start to the day; it got me out of the house thinking I might live to see sunset. Then, a quick transition into

Sister Christian - Night Ranger

(... and his mullet grew three sizes that day...)

By the way, if you were driving around Norman this morning, and saw a guy holding his lighter out the drivers' side window, air-singing "What's your price for flight? For finding Mr. Right?" that could have been me. Then,

Everybody Hurts - R.E.M.

Not their best, not their worst, but the title was preparing me for being stuck at a train crossing with

Rockin' in the U.S.A. - John Cougar Mellencrap

If you saw the guy with his lips wrapped around the business end of a 12-gauge ... well, anyway, the only thing that kept me from pulling the trigger was the distracting realization that it was the same damned song as "What I Like About You". Seriously. So, you can add "Thieving SoB" to the list of "Things That Suck About John Cougar".

Finally the train ended, and I pulled into the parking lot to

Video Killed the Radio Star - The Buggles

All in all, an up-down morning.

Don't Know What This Means

Not a great start to the day.

Although I did get a few measures of "Head over Heels" by Tears for Fears (but not enough to count), the day's start was

If I Ever Lose My Faith In You - Sting
Superfreak - Rick James

So, does the first song mean my day will be overrated, arrogant, but ultimately immensely profitable? Of course the second entry pretty much means I'll die strung-out and destitute. Which is probably more fun than living strung-out and destitute.

Your Dog Keeps Licking My Nose

The best tunes on the radio this morning: the sound of a siren pulling over Billy the Drunk in some bail bondsman ad. As for music:

You Better You Bet by The Who

Pretty much the dying gasp of a colossally overrated band. Which kinda sums up the relationship of today with my week.
